Fewer positive portrayals

For years when I got an audition or cast in film or TV, it was usually in a part known to be a "positive portrayal".  Doctors are usually such roles.  Telling the star why his wife has cancer and not knowing that she'd actually been poisoned by her husband.  To date I've done 29 doctors.  I could cut a reel of my doctors to the stars.

But in the last few weeks, a new phenomenon has emerged from the casting swamp.  I've been getting auditions for rather unlikeable characters.  A pedophile, an upper class git, a righteous prick on a cop series - I recently played a wannabe gangster on an episode of HBO Canada's "Living In Your Car".  I really hope this is the start of a trend!
